Ruler Modern is the Ruler Rounded font “alienated” a little further, to the extreme point when the font is still readable but has a small resemblance with the basic version. The end result is a personal surprise, since no particular style was pursued in the creation.
The construction has a logical sinuous line based mostly on circles that has become the key rule during development and which gives this font a strong impact and an exceptional personality, delicate and strong at the same time.
Ironically, the font initially named “Modern” turned out to be more of an ethnic design, with a hint to the bold and curved lines of the sixties fonts. Again, not Modern.
Even if the design is somehow a niche solution, the exercise to reduce characters at their essence is always helpful in understanding better the construction of fonts and how these are read (or not). Overall the project is one of the most fruitful so far that inspires, still.
