The Basic font was developed after several exercises to find the most basic lines with minimal resources, which means a small number of nodes, kerning based mostly on the characters margins and a few corners cut for simple effects.
Obviously, the Helvetica syndrome is always present when creating a neutral sans, but even so, the Basic font is built with a few personal approaches, including a logical double-storey g and trying not to go overboard with the optical effects.
The name is based on the design and not the content. The alternates and the OpenType Features should also compensate the simple design, adding extra options for a rich display. For the same reason, the first created is the Light version, to start with a clean layout and to have a template of some sort for later versions to come. Plus, this version will allow more freedom when working with small elements and has no limitations in the creative process.
The design is inspired by the common shapes of sans fonts. As a reference should be mentioned Neue Haas Grotesk, Helios, Arimo, Swiss 721, Gothic 725, Zurich and Franklin, among another few thousand more.
